John Barr Reserve Blend Black Label Blended Scotch Whisky

John Barr Reserve Blend is made by Whyte & Mackay, the Glasgow blenders behind Dalmore and Jura, and it has been one of the best-value blends on the shelf for decades. The Reserve comes in the black-labelled bottle.

For the price it's a surprising amount of whisky: maple, caramel and butterscotch on the nose, a round, fruity body with a hint of espresso, and a finish of clove and grapefruit peel. It's bottled at 40%.

This is the bottle for parties, punches and everyday highballs where you don't want to pour something expensive. It sips better than Red Label for less money; when you want to trade up, Chivas Regal 12 is the next step.
