Kosta Browne is a Sonoma Pinot Noir house that Duckhorn Wine Company acquired in 2018. In August 2016 it bought Cerise Vineyards, 60 acres in Anderson Valley above Boonville, at 700 to 1,700 feet, and this Estate Series wine comes from that site.
The vineyard's steep, west-facing blocks sit on the east side of the valley, about 16 miles from the coast. The 2021 uses clones 23, 37, 115, 777, Pommard and Martini, with 6% whole cluster. It aged 18 months in 46% new French oak plus 5% new Austrian oak. It's 14.2% alcohol.
The winery describes an inviting bouquet of raspberry and cherry, a palate of rhubarb and blood orange, chalky tannins and a long finish. Jeb Dunnuck notes subtle layers of crisp red fruit over underlying elegance.
Against Kosta Browne Beaune Premier Cru 2021, Cerise is the estate-grown California single vineyard; for Kosta Browne's own hillside estate fruit, choose Cerise.
Jeb Dunnuck gives a drinking window of 2025 to 2041. Serve with duck or wild mushrooms.
