Overture is the second wine of Opus One, in Oakville, Napa Valley. It's made from lots the winery sets aside from the Opus One blend.
For years Overture was released as a multi-vintage blend, and retailers have used release names for it; the winery now labels it by vintage. The winery doesn't explain the V9 name on our listing, so check the bottle for the vintage or release. Like Opus One, it's built on Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, and retailers list it at 14% alcohol under cork.
For its current release, the winery describes blueberry, blackberry and black currant with sweet cedar and florals, red cherry, raspberry and plum on the palate, and a medium body with fresh acidity.
Against Opus One 2022, Overture costs about a third as much and is ready sooner; for a taste of Opus One for a dinner party, choose Overture.
Serve it with steak, lamb chops or a cheese board.
