Aviation American Gin Batch Distilled 750ml

Aviation American Gin was created in 2006 in Portland, Oregon, by distiller Christian Krogstad and bartender Ryan Magarian. Diageo bought it in 2020, and Ryan Reynolds still holds a stake.

It is a grain gin bottled at 42%, with botanicals that include cardamom, coriander, French lavender, anise, sarsaparilla, juniper and two kinds of orange peel. Juniper is kept in the background, so it reads as clean, spicy and smooth.

If you find London Dry too piney, Aviation is the easiest American gin to like; for a juniper-led gin choose Beefeater. For a Brooklyn-made alternative, try Fort Hamilton.

It is named for the Aviation cocktail (gin, maraschino, crème de violette and lemon), and it also makes a soft, bone-dry Martini or an easy gin and soda.
