Bruichladdich Octomore 13.1 is part of Octomore, Bruichladdich's series of the most heavily peated whiskies in the world. It was distilled from the 2015 harvest of Scottish mainland barley, peated to 137.3 ppm, matured in American oak and bottled at 59.2%.
Despite the huge phenol level, Octomore is youthful and surprisingly balanced: thick peat smoke and bonfire over sweet malt, vanilla, citrus and honey from the American oak, with a long, smoky finish. The .1 bottling is the benchmark of each edition: Scottish barley and American oak.
For a super-heavily peated Islay malt, Octomore 13.1 is our pick. For a later Octomore, choose Octomore 14.3; for a smoky wine-cask Port Charlotte, see Port Charlotte PMC:01.
Add water a few drops at a time, and sip it slowly.
We carry it in the 750ml size, in limited quantities. It is also on our peated Scotch page. More bottles are under single malt Scotch, and the rest of our Scotch is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
