Highland Park 40 Year is one of the oldest whiskies the Orkney distillery has released, made with a high proportion of first-fill sherry-seasoned European oak casks.

Highland Park has made whisky in Kirkwall, Orkney, since 1798, still turning some of its own malt on traditional floors and drying it over Orkney peat, which gives a gentle, heathery smoke. Four decades in oak give a rich coppery amber, with spice, dark fruit, nutmeg and darkest chocolate on the nose, then a balance of sweet toffee, dark chocolate, sun-dried orange zest, candied lemon and heathery peat smoke, and a rich, long, smoky and surprisingly sweet finish.
