The Balvenie 27 Year A Rare Discovery from Distant Shores is part of The Balvenie Stories collection. It spent twenty years in American oak before an unusually long seven-year finish in rare casks that once held rum from the closed Caroni distillery in Trinidad. It is bottled at 48%.

The rum casks give rich, tropical depth: muscovado sugar, manuka honey and green banana with delicate spice on the nose, then a smooth, velvety palate of treacle toffee, aged leather and deep oak, and a long, mouth-coating finish. Balvenie still keeps its own coopers and floor maltings in Dufftown.
