Catherine and Pierre Breton farm 11 hectares in Restigné, east of Bourgueil in the Loire Valley. Their importer, Kermit Lynch, says the vineyards were certified organic in 1991.
Trinch! is 100% Cabernet Franc from about 30-year-old vines on five hectares of gravel soils. It's made in stainless steel with a cold maceration, and there's no oak. It's 12.5% alcohol.
The importer calls it a juicy, perfumed Cabernet Franc from the Loire's gravelly riverbanks, youthful and light-hearted, and a retailer adds dark fruit, fresh herbs and musk.
Against Jean Foillard Beaujolais-Villages, Trinch! is more herbal and peppery; if you like Cabernet Franc, choose Trinch!.
The importer says to serve it chilled, as a snack wine with baguette, rillettes de Tours, soft cheeses or sardines with salted butter. Drink it young.
