El Bandido Yankee is a Chicago company owned by hockey great Chris Chelios and Jim Bob Morris. Its tequila is made at Tequila El Viejito (NOM 1107) by master distiller Karina Rojo. The agave is cooked in brick ovens, crushed with a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel and distilled twice, then rested about four months in American oak ex-bourbon barrels that are stripped and re-charred.
Expect cooked agave, cinnamon, almond, toasted oak and vanilla with a peppery finish. El Bandido Yankee joined Tequila Matchmaker's additive-free program, as Punch reported in 2023, and won gold at the 2025 Agavos Awards.
It is a mid-priced reposado with a clean, traditional profile.
