Flor de Cana 18 Year Rum 750ml

Flor de Caña 18 Year is aged 18 years in American white oak bourbon barrels. Since 2023 its age is a true minimum and the Centenario name has gone. It comes from a single, family-owned estate at the foot of the San Cristóbal volcano in Nicaragua, making rum since 1890, and the producer says it contains no additives and no added sugar. It is bottled at 40%.

It is lightly sweet and elegant, with vanilla, caramel and nuts, then spice and a long, smooth finish.

For a long-aged rum without added sugar, this is the pick. It is softer than El Dorado 15; for a younger version, try Flor de Caña 12.

The producer's serve is over a large ice cube with an orange peel. It is also lovely neat after dinner.
