La Forcine is a Sancerre from the Loire brand Auguste Bonhomme, which also makes Vouvray and Muscadet. Tri-Vin Imports brings it to the US.
Sancerre sits at the eastern end of the Loire Valley, and the appellation is made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc for its white wines. The chalk, clay and flint soils give the wines their crisp, mineral profile. This bottle is the Sancerre version of La Forcine; the brand also sells a cheaper Vin de France Sauvignon under the same name.
Wine Enthusiast described the previous vintage, 2023, with perfumed aromas of gardenia, white rose petal and jasmine. Young Sancerre like this is made to be drunk fresh.
Against Pascal Jolivet Sancerre, La Forcine costs less; as an entry point to the appellation, choose La Forcine.
Serve it at about 10°C with goat cheese, oysters or grilled fish.
