Luxardo Amaretto di Saschira 750ml

Luxardo, the family company founded in Zara in 1821 and now in Torreglia near Padua, makes this amaretto from the essential oils in the pits of cherries, peaches and apricots. It is kosher-certified and vegan, and bottled at 24%.

It is a deeper, darker amaretto: bold marzipan on the nose, rich toffee, brown sugar and almond on a thick palate, and baking spice and burnt orange peel on the finish. It is rich enough to sip on its own, slowly, over one cube.

Next to Disaronno it is richer and less sweet; next to Lazzaroni it tastes more of toffee than of cookie. Buy it if you want an amaretto with depth for sipping.

Luxardo suggests it in an Amaretto Sour, neat or over ice after dinner, or topped with Champagne.
