Old Overholt is one of the oldest whiskey names in America, after Abraham Overholt, who distilled rye in western Pennsylvania in the early 1800s. Beam makes it in Kentucky today, and the current label carries a four-year age statement.
It is a softer rye than most on this shelf, with grain and gentle spice rather than a wall of pepper. That's the point: it was built as a mixing whiskey and is priced like one, and it has been poured in bars for generations because it gets along with everything.
Choose it for big-batch punches, highballs and anything with ginger beer. When the rye has to stand out in a stirred drink, spend a few dollars more on Rittenhouse. For a much older, much stronger Overholt, look at the 10 Year Cask Strength.
The 1L is the size most bars buy. Keep one in the freezer door for highballs; rye at that temperature pours thick and stays crisp under soda.
We carry it in 750ml, 1L and 1.75L. More bottles are under rye whiskey, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
