Siete Leguas Reposado is a 100% agave tequila from Atotonilco el Alto in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, aged in oak and bottled at 40% alcohol in a 700ml bottle.
Siete Leguas (NOM 1120) was founded in 1952 and is still family-run; the family made the original Patrón. The reposado blends tequila from its two distilleries, one crushing agave with a mule-drawn tahona and fermenting with the fibers, the other using a roller mill. Both cook in brick ovens and distill twice in copper pot stills, and the tequila is aged eight months in well-used American oak.
Expect a slightly sweet palate of apple, vanilla, ripe mango, banana and peach. Wine Enthusiast (Kara Newman) gives it 96 points. Siete Leguas joined Tequila Matchmaker's confirmed additive-free brands, as Punch reported in 2023.
