St. Francis Winery & Vineyards sits in Sonoma Valley, and its Sonoma County Chardonnay belongs to the Classic Collection. Winemakers Katie Madigan and Chris Louton make it.
For the 2024 the grapes came from the winery's estate vineyards in Sonoma Valley and the Russian River Valley, plus growers in Carneros and Alexander Valley. They were picked at night and in the early morning, fermented lot by lot in French oak barrels with malolactic fermentation, and aged eight months in French oak, 20% of it new, with lees stirring. The 2024 is 14.3% alcohol.
The winery describes a bright, crisp wine with fresh pear, baked apple, lemon curd and brioche, a touch of minerality, and soft acidity on the finish.
Against La Crema Sonoma Coast, St. Francis is rounder and costs less; for a barrel-fermented Sonoma white under $15, choose St. Francis.
Serve it lightly chilled with roast chicken, pork chops, grilled salmon or a creamy risotto.
