Tenuta di Nozzole is the Folonari family's estate in Chianti Classico, about 1,000 acres just north of Greve in Chianti. The family's winemaking tradition goes back to the 1700s, and vines have grown on this land for seven centuries.
The 2022 Riserva is 100% Sangiovese from vineyards at about 300 meters, kept to low yields and picked by hand. US importer Kobrand reports that it fermented on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel, went through malolactic in steel, then aged 24 months in oak and three more in bottle. It's 14% alcohol.
Kobrand describes red berry and cherry aromas and flavors with earthy undertones, fresh acidity and firm but elegant tannins. Wine Spectator calls it round and supple, evoking black cherry, plum, earth and leather.
Against Ruffino Riserva Ducale, Nozzole is a single-estate, all-Sangiovese Riserva from Greve; for one estate's take on Chianti Classico at the same price, choose Nozzole.
Kobrand pairs it with meat, poultry and cheese. Wine Spectator puts its peak at 2028 to 2042, so decant it if you open it now.
