Tequila Ocho Extra Anejo Mesa Colorada 2023 750ml

Ocho bottles tequila the way an estate bottles wine: one field, one harvest, both named on the label. This is Mesa Colorada, 2023, extra añejo, 40% alcohol.
The agave comes off fields the Camarena family farms in the Jalisco highlands, cut overripe — which is where the sweetness in the glass starts — then cooked in brick ovens, fermented in wooden vats and distilled in copper pots. Three years after that in American oak barrels that held bourbon first.
Ocho's own note stays short: sweetness, wood, agave. No publication has reviewed this release, and we would rather not invent tasting notes for a bottle at this price.
If you buy añejo for what the barrel does, this is the one. If you buy Ocho for the agave, the plata or the reposado shows it more plainly, at a fifth of the money.
Neat, in a copita or any glass you can get your nose into. No ice.
