Vietti is a Barolo house in Castiglione Falletto, in the Langhe, known for its artist labels since 1974. On its own site the winery now calls this wine Barbera d'Alba Trevìe; US retailers still often list it as Tre Vigne.
It's 100% Barbera from Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d'Alba, La Morra and other Langhe villages, on limestone and clay, from vines 28 to 43 years old. It ferments for about two weeks in steel, then ages about a year in a mix of steel, barriques and large casks. It's dry and 14.5% alcohol.
The winery describes ruby color with ripe red cherry, vanilla and violets, bright acidity, sweet tannins and a cherry finish.
Against Michele Chiarlo Le Orme, Vietti is rounder and comes from three Barolo villages; for a step up in Barbera, choose Vietti.
Serve it with pizza, tajarin with ragù, roast pork or salumi.
