Bezel is the Central Coast label of Cakebread Cellars, the Napa family winery, and winemaker Jane Dunkley makes it. Kobrand distributes it in the US.
The grapes come from the cool San Luis Obispo Coast, which the winery calls ideal for Chardonnay; earlier vintages were labelled Edna Valley. The wine spends eight months in French oak, and the winery says the barrels lift the fruit rather than dominate it. The 2024 is 13.5% alcohol and sealed with a cork.
Bezel describes lemon zest, Granny Smith apple, fresh pear and vanilla spice in a light, refreshing style with bright citrus and floral notes.
Against Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard, Bezel is lighter and more citrusy; for a coastal Chardonnay with Cakebread behind it, choose Bezel.
The winery suggests a lobster roll, fried chicken, or chips and onion dip. Serve it chilled.
