Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc 2024 750ml

Don and Rhonda Carano founded Ferrari-Carano in Dry Creek Valley in 1981, and Fumé Blanc was one of their first two wines. Foley Family Wines now owns the estate and its 21 vineyard sites.

Fumé Blanc is the California name for an oak-touched Sauvignon Blanc. The 2024 is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, mostly from Sonoma County, picked between mid-August and early October. Seventy percent fermented in stainless steel and 30% in neutral French oak barrels, where it spent two months on the lees with regular stirring. That gives a rounder texture than an all-steel wine.

The winery describes guava, apricot and lychee aromas, then pineapple, mango, peach and lemon cream on a light, refreshing palate.

Against DAOU, Ferrari-Carano is softer and costs less; for a weeknight crowd-pleaser, choose the Fumé Blanc.

The winery suggests seafood, poultry, pork and spicy Thai or Mexican food.
