Hess Select Chardonnay 750ml

Hess Select is the California line of Hess Persson Estates of Napa. Winemaker Stephanie Pope makes the current release.

The grapes come from grower families throughout California. It's 100% Chardonnay, made with 70% of the wine in stainless steel and 30% in French oak, so the oak stays in the background and the fruit leads. The 2024 and 2025 are both 13.5% alcohol.

For the 2025 the winery describes grilled pineapple on the nose, then sliced peach and Golden Delicious apple, lemon zest, a hint of oak, brioche toast and bright acidity. It's medium-bodied with a clean finish.

Against Kendall-Jackson Vintner’s Reserve, Hess is fresher and less oaky; if you find most California Chardonnay too rich, choose Hess.

The winery suggests grilled chicken and jasmine rice bowls. It also works with fish tacos, shrimp, or a summer salad with peaches. Serve it chilled.
