Jaywalk Small Batch Straight Rye Whiskey 750ml

Jaywalk is made in Brooklyn, at New York Distilling Company on Johnson Avenue, from Horton rye, an old New York variety brought back from just ten surviving seeds.

The mash is 75% New York rye with 13% corn and 12% malted barley. The blend is built around six-, seven- and eight-year-old Horton rye whiskeys aged in medium-charred new oak, with some other straight ryes added, and it's bottled at 92 proof. It leans fruity rather than peppery: honey, apricot and peach on the nose, candied pineapple, mango and caramelised sugar on the palate, and vanilla with gentle rye spice to finish.

It makes a soft, fruit-forward Manhattan; use a bittersweet vermouth so it doesn't go too sweet. Neat, a single large cube is enough.
