Lindeman's was founded by Dr Henry Lindeman in the Hunter Valley in 1843. Bin 65 Chardonnay launched in Canada in 1985 and reached the US after that, before going on sale in Australia in 1991.
The label says South Eastern Australia, and the grapes come from growing areas across southern Australia. Some parcels mature in seasoned French and American oak, so the oak stays gentle. This is the 1.5L bottle, the same as two standard bottles.
It's soft and smooth, with melon, peach, yellow apple and pear, a touch of butter and vanilla, and a hint of oak.
Against Yellow Tail, Bin 65 has a little more oak and structure, and the magnum costs less per glass; for a party Chardonnay, choose Lindeman's.
Serve it chilled, about 46 to 50°F. It's made to drink young, so enjoy it within a year. It suits roast chicken, grilled fish, salads and soft cheeses.
