Madre Mezcal Ensamble is a mezcal artesanal from San Dionisio Ocotepec in Oaxaca, Mexico, made from cultivated espadín and wild cuishe agave and bottled at 45% alcohol. We carry it in 200ml and 700ml sizes.
Madre was founded in 2016 by Tony Farfalla, Stefan Wigand, Davide Berruto and Chris Stephenson, and is made by José Inés García Morales and his family. The agave is roasted in an earthen pit, crushed by tahona, fermented with wild yeast and well water, and distilled in copper pot stills.
Madre describes subtle smoke, sage, minerals and a floral finish. VinePair's Tim McKirdy calls it an approachable introduction to the category, and it won Double Gold at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The wild cuishe adds a herbal, mineral edge that single-agave espadín mezcals do not have.
Sip it neat, or use it in a mezcal margarita or paloma.
