Michter's Barrel Strength Rye is its US*1 single barrel rye bottled straight from the cask. The standard US*1 is cut to 84.8 proof; this one isn't cut at all, and each limited release lands at its own proof.
Michter's fills its barrels at 103 proof, below the legal maximum, and ages them in warehouses heated in winter so the whiskey works in and out of the oak more often. The mash is 53% rye with corn and malted barley. At full strength the same butterscotch, cherry and cinnamon you get in the regular bottling turn richer and spicier, with more oak and a longer finish.
Buy it if you already like the standard US*1 Single Barrel Rye and want to hear it louder. For the toasted-barrel twist on the same whiskey, see the Toasted Barrel Finish.
Start neat, then add water a few drops at a time.
We carry it in the 750ml size, in limited quantities. More bottles are under rye whiskey, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
