Sonoma-Cutrer is now part of Duckhorn Wine Company. Cara Morrison is director of winemaking. Despite the name, the winery gives its appellation as Sonoma Coast.
For the 2024 the fruit came from the winery's six estate vineyards plus a few selected growers. The grapes were picked in the early morning, sorted by hand and pressed as whole clusters, using only the free-run juice. About 75% of the wine fermented in French oak barrels and 25% in tank, then it aged on its lees in new and one-year-old barrels. The whole wine went through malolactic fermentation.
The winery describes lime zest, Meyer lemon, green apple, white pear, white flowers and toasted almond, then crisp lemon and a long, velvety finish of pineapple and pear.
Against La Crema, Sonoma-Cutrer is creamier and rounder; if you like a smooth, polished Sonoma Chardonnay, choose Sonoma-Cutrer.
The winery says it's ready now and suggests chicken, prawns, risotto or salmon.
