Frey Vineyards makes every wine with no added sulfites, and this Cabernet carries the USDA Organic seal. The family bought its Redwood Valley ranch in Mendocino County in 1962 and calls itself America's first organic and biodynamic winery.
Paul Frey is the winemaker. The winery has held USDA Organic certification since 2003. (Its separate Biodynamic line also carries a Demeter seal; this is the Organic wine.)
The winery describes a rich, earthy wine with plum and chocolate, a graceful tannic structure and a robust finish.
Buy this if you avoid added sulfites. Without them, drink it young rather than keeping it. For another organic, no-sulfites-added choice, see Our Daily Cab.
Serve it a little cool and finish an opened bottle within a day. Frey suggests wild mushroom ragout, rack of lamb or flourless chocolate cake.
