St. Francis Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml

St. Francis gives its Sonoma County Cabernet a full 18 months in French oak. That's a long time for a bottle at this price, and it shows in the firm, structured finish.

The winery has been in Santa Rosa since 1971 and farms more than 400 acres of certified sustainable vineyards in Sonoma County. This wine blends mountain, hillside and valley-floor fruit and is fermented slowly. Katie Madigan and Chris Louton make the wines.

The winery describes blackcurrant, ripe plum, tobacco and spice, with firm tannins and a full, velvety body. It's 14.8% alcohol.

It drinks like a more expensive Sonoma Cab. If you want the same county with more polish and can spend more, try Silver Oak Alexander Valley; for weeknights, this is the better buy.

Decant it for 30 minutes, or pour it into big glasses and let it sit. St. Francis suggests braised short ribs, grilled steak or roast pork.
