Buena Vista Chateau Buena Vista Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 750ml

Buena Vista has been making wine in Sonoma since 1857 and calls itself California's first premium winery. Chateau Buena Vista is its Napa Valley line, and this Cabernet Sauvignon is the one that has drawn the most attention.

The winery belongs to Jean-Charles Boisset's Boisset Collection. The 2022 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, made in small lots with native yeasts, fermented in open-top oak vats with the cap punched down by hand, then aged in French oak.

Ripe plum and raspberry lead, with anise and toffee behind them. The palate is full-bodied, with blackberry jam, chocolate and cherry and a silky finish.

For a Napa Cabernet at this price it's one of the better buys on our shelf. If your budget stretches further, Caymus Napa Valley is richer and riper; if not, this gets you most of the way there.

Give it 30 minutes in a decanter and serve it a little below room temperature. Grilled lamb, a burger with blue cheese or mushroom risotto all work.
