Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish Single Malt Whisky 750ml

Kavalan distils in Yilan, on Taiwan's wet east coast, where heat and humidity push whisky along years faster than a Scottish warehouse does. Concertmaster is its port-finished single malt, 43% alcohol.

It starts in American oak, then spends about a year in Portuguese port barriques, ruby, tawny and vintage casks mixed — a short finish for a large effect.

Tropical fruit, honey and coconut from the first cask; cranberry, blueberry and dry spice from the second. Rich and sweet, finishing warm and dry with a touch of pepper. The Beverage Testing Institute awarded it a gold medal. Double Gold at San Francisco in 2025, gold in 2024 and 2023.

If you like a sherried Speyside, this is the same idea in a sweeter, more tropical register, and nothing in Scotland tastes quite like it at the price.

Neat, or over one big cube. It is sweet enough to hold its own next to dark chocolate.
