La Marca Prosecco DOC

La Marca Prosecco is made in the hills of Treviso, in Italy's Veneto region, by La Marca Vini e Spumanti, a cooperative whose wines represent some 5,000 local growers. The brand is owned by E. & J. Gallo.

It's a Prosecco DOC made from Glera, the Prosecco grape, by the producer's "Metodo Italiano", the tank (Charmat) method, where the second fermentation happens in a pressurized tank rather than in the bottle. Older bottles said "Extra Dry" on the label; the current label no longer uses that term. It comes in 187ml, 375ml, 750ml and 1.5L bottles, closed with a sparkling cork under silver foil.

The producer describes it as bright, crisp and refreshing, with notes of citrus and honeysuckle blossom, green apple, juicy peach and ripe lemon.

Against Ruffino Prosecco DOC, La Marca is the lower-priced pick and comes in more sizes; for a crowd, a brunch or a split-size bottle, choose La Marca.

The producer suggests it for aperitivo, brunch, cocktails and celebrations. Serve it well chilled.
