Veuve du Vernay is a French sparkling wine brand, and its website credits the house of Patriarche, based in Beaune, Burgundy. One retailer says Patriarche is part of Groupe Castel.
The brand describes a second fermentation set off by a liqueur de tirage, followed by several months of aging, though it doesn't name the method. One retailer says most Veuve du Vernay wines are made in tank by the Charmat method, and lists the rosé's grapes as Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah. It's a non-vintage brut at 11.5% alcohol.
A retailer describes it as round and fruity, with ripe strawberry.
Against Veuve du Vernay Ice Rosé, the Brut Rosé costs less and is made to drink on its own; for an everyday pink sparkler, choose the Brut Rosé.
Serve it well chilled as an aperitif, at brunch or at a party. It works with salads, smoked salmon, sushi, charcuterie and fruit desserts, and it makes a good base for a rosé mimosa or a spritz. At this price it's easy to buy a few bottles for a crowd.
