La Vieille Ferme is made by Famille Perrin, the family behind Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the brand has been sold for more than 40 years. Perrin says the Ventoux brings elegance and structure to its red wines.
The red is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault from the southern Rhône. Each variety is harvested and vinified separately, destemmed and fermented in cement tanks with pumping over. The producer mentions no oak, so this is a fruit-first everyday red.
The winery describes a real explosion of red fruit, with blackcurrant syrup, crushed strawberry and small berries, a velvety texture and fine tannins.
Against Perrin Côtes du Rhône Réserve Rouge, La Vieille Ferme is the family's lower-priced, cement-fermented red; for a weeknight bottle or a 3L box for a crowd, choose La Vieille Ferme.
The producer suggests serving it at 17°C. Pour it with pizza, burgers, roast chicken, charcuterie or a cheese board. It comes in 750ml, 1.5L and 3L sizes, so it's an easy pick for parties.
