Famille Perrin Cotes du Rhone Reserve Rouge 2023 750ml

Famille Perrin is the family behind Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their Réserve range is their entry point to the southern Rhône, made from the family's own Le Grand Prébois vineyard near Orange.

The 2023 Réserve Rouge is a Côtes du Rhône AOC blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Le Grand Prébois has limestone, clay, gravel and stony soils, and each parcel is vinified separately with minimal intervention. It's 13.5% alcohol.

The winery describes a deep ruby wine with ripe red berries, black cherry, spice and garrigue, a "fleshy and fruity" palate with silky tannins, plum and pepper, and an earthy finish.

Against Chateau Mont-Redon Chateauneuf du Pape 2021, the Perrin Réserve is a fraction of the price; for an everyday southern Rhône red, choose the Perrin.

The winery suggests roast meats, stews, grilled vegetables and charcuterie. Serve it a little below room temperature, around 60 to 65°F.
