Merryvale Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2022 750ml

Merryvale is a St. Helena winery in Napa Valley, solely owned by the Schlatter family since 1996, with René Schlatter as CEO and Jeff Crawford as winemaker. Its Sonoma Coast Chardonnay belongs to the Classics range.

The winery sources the grapes from select vineyards in the cool Sonoma Coast and uses classic Burgundian methods. The 2022 was fermented in French oak barrels, 30% new and the rest neutral, and spent ten months on its lees. It went through full malolactic fermentation, which gives it a rich, creamy texture. It's 14.2% alcohol.

A Swiss importer describes dried apricot, yellow rose, toasted hazelnut, mandarin zest and chamomile, with a rich, full body and a saline finish.

Against Flowers Sonoma Coast, Merryvale is richer and creamier and costs less; for a full-bodied coastal Chardonnay, choose Merryvale.
