Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt Japanese Whisky 50th Anniversary Limited Edition 2019 750ml

Nikka released this in 2019 to mark fifty years since Miyagikyo distillery opened near Sendai in 1969. It's one of two anniversary bottlings, and it holds whiskies from each of the five decades, the 1960s to the 2000s, so some of the first spirit the distillery ever made is in the glass.

Miyagikyo was built as the soft counterpoint to coastal, peaty Yoichi: steam-heated stills, a valley between two rivers, and a mild, fruity malt. Fifty years of stock in one bottle is what makes this edition so rare.

This is a collector's bottle and a piece of Japanese whisky history. For the everyday version of the same distillery, the Miyagikyo Single Malt is the place to start.
