Three Finger Jack is named for a Gold Rush outlaw from the Sierra foothills, and the grapes come from Lodi's East Side Ridge, where the foothills begin. It's made by Delicato Family Wines.
Delicato's founder, Gaspare Indelicato, planted his first vines in this part of Lodi. Older vintages were aged nine months in American and French oak, and recent blends add Petite Sirah, Malbec and Merlot to the Cabernet. The ABV runs high for the category, around 14.5 to 15% depending on the year.
The winery describes black plums and cherries with coffee and black pepper and polished tannins. It's a big, smooth, intense Cab.
Lodi Cabernet is riper and softer than Napa's. If you like Paso Robles bottles such as Daou but want to spend less, try this.
Give it some air before you pour. The winery suggests steak, lamb chops, rare burgers or aged cheese.
More bottles are in our wines under $20, and all our Cabernet Sauvignon is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery across NYC.
