Tinto Amorio is a small family winery in Healdsburg, in Sonoma County, whose labels say the wines are made by family and friends.
Bheyo is a co-fermented orange wine of 95.3% Gewürztraminer from Monterey and 4.7% Zinfandel from Mendocino, both from vineyards the winery describes as practicing organic, though not certified. Whole berries go into the tank for a semi-carbonic fermentation with native yeast, and the wine spends 22 days on the skins and ferments dry. It's aged on its lees and bottled unfined and unfiltered, with 14 ppm total sulfur dioxide. It's vegan and 11.9% alcohol.
The winery describes navel orange, yellow plum, lingonberry, pumpernickel, crushed herbs and mineral notes, with grippy tannins.
Against The Vice Orange of Gewurztraminer, Bheyo is a native-yeast, unfiltered, low-sulfur skin-contact wine; for a natural-style California orange wine, choose Bheyo.
The winery says to serve it chilled and suggests Thai food, al pastor tacos and smoked trout.
