Cakebread Cellars Vine Hill Ranch Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 750ml

Cakebread has bought Cabernet from Vine Hill Ranch, on the western benchlands of Oakville, since 1982. This single-vineyard wine comes from three blocks and two clones there.

Stephanie Jacobs made the 2017. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-harvested at night between late September and early October and cold-soaked for 48 hours. Each block was fermented and aged separately, 22 months in French oak, 61% new. It's 14.9% alcohol.

The winery describes blackberry, boysenberry, dark chocolate and stony notes, full-bodied and opulent, with firm tannins and a dense, powerful finish.

It sits above the house's Napa Valley Cabernet. For the mountain style, choose Dancing Bear Ranch 2017; for the bench style, choose this.

Cakebread says to drink it now or over about the next decade. Serve it with lamb chops, short ribs or a char-broiled steak.
