Cakebread Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 750ml

This is Cakebread's flagship Napa Valley Cabernet from 2020, made from fruit grown in Rutherford, Oakville, Calistoga and the cooler southern Suscol area.

Stephanie Jacobs made the 2020: 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. The grapes were hand-harvested at night from late September to mid-October, and the wine spent 17 months in French oak, 47% new, before bottling in April 2022. It's 14.9% alcohol.

The winery describes ripe blackberry, boysenberry, dark chocolate and toasty oak, with fresh acidity, lush tannins, a hint of minerality and an elegant finish.

Of the Cakebread Napa Cabs on our shelf, the 2018 is the most mature and the 2022 the newest; choose the 2020 for the middle ground.

Cakebread suggests braised short rib or grilled portobello. Decant it for 30 minutes.
