Crown Royal was created in 1939 for the royal tour of Canada by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and it's still the best-selling Canadian whisky. It's blended at Gimli, Manitoba, on the shore of Lake Winnipeg.
Canadian whisky is usually made by distilling and ageing each grain separately, then blending them, and Crown Royal brings together about 50 different whiskies. That gives it a light, smooth style: caramel taffy and apple on the nose, a soft palate of vanilla, oak and maple, and a quick, clean finish. It's bottled at 40%, and it still comes in the famous purple bag.
It's an easy pour for mixing and casual sipping. For a richer Crown, try Crown Royal XO; for a sweeter twist, look at our flavored whiskey.
Make a Crown and ginger: 1 1/2oz over ice, topped with ginger ale and a lime wedge. It also works in a whisky sour.
We carry it in 750ml and 1L. More bottles are under Canadian and world whisky, and the rest of our whiskey is a click away. Pick it up at our Brooklyn store or get same-day delivery in Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens.
