Duckhorn Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 750ml

Duckhorn made its name with Merlot, but its Napa Valley Cabernet is the wine the winery is built on now. Dan and Margaret Duckhorn founded it in St. Helena in 1976.

The 2022 is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, from both mountain and valley-floor vineyards. It spent 16 months in French oak, half of it new. The winery is now part of The Duckhorn Portfolio, owned by Butterfly Equity since late 2024.

Expect dark red berries and cardamom on the nose, fig jam and boysenberry pie on the palate, and firm, dusty tannins with a long, focused finish. It's 14.5% alcohol.

For a classic Napa Cabernet from a name people recognize, this is a safe gift. If you want the house style for less, the Decoy California Cabernet comes from the same family.

Decant it for an hour, or keep it a few more years. A rack of lamb or a dry-aged steak suits it.
