Faust The Pact Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 750ml

The Pact is Faust's flagship, from the highest-elevation blocks of its Coombsville estate, and the 2018 made Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2021.

Faust belongs to the Huneeus family, owners of Quintessa. The Coombsville estate covers 121 acres off Coombsville Road, about 100 of them planted, mostly to Cabernet. The Pact is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon; each lot is fermented separately in small batches, and the 2018 aged 22 months in French oak, 40% new.

The winemaker describes black cherry, black currant and blue fruit, then graphite, tobacco, star anise and cocoa, mineral and pure, with fine-grained tannins.

It's a clear step up from the Faust Napa Valley Cabernet. Buy The Pact for a single-estate Coombsville wine.

James Suckling suggested drinking it after 2022, and Wine Spectator through 2031. Decant it for an hour and serve with lamb.
