Frank Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 750ml

Rich Frank founded Frank Family Vineyards in 1992 at the historic Larkmead winery site in Calistoga. This Napa Valley Cabernet is the winery's best-known wine.

The 2023 is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot. It comes from the estate's Benjamin and S&J Vineyards plus other Napa growers. It was a cool, late vintage, with harvest running from early October into November. The wine aged in French oak: a third new, a third once-used and a third twice-used. It's 14.5% alcohol.

The winery describes cassis, tobacco and cocoa, then coffee bean, nutmeg and toasted oak, with finely ground, sweet tannins.

James Suckling found real freshness in this cool vintage. For a riper, rounder style, choose Caymus Napa Valley.

Decant it for an hour if you open it now; Suckling says drink now or hold. Serve it with a strip steak or lamb.
