Henri Champliau is a family-owned sparkling house in Mercurey, in Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise, founded in 2016 by owner and winemaker Alexandre Graffard and named for his grandfather. It buys directly from growers and, according to its importer Winebow, rejects up to two-thirds of the fruit offered.
Brut Authentique is 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay from vines 10 to 30 years old on clay-limestone soils. The varieties are vinified separately in small lots in stainless steel. The wine then goes through its second fermentation in bottle by the traditional method and rests 15 months on the lees. It's a Brut with 5.9 g/L of residual sugar, vegan-fined, and 12.5% alcohol.
The producer says the Pinot Noir brings strength and complexity, the Chardonnay freshness, and the lees aging richness. Wine Enthusiast, quoted by the importer, notes white peach, apple, pear and "delicate creaminess."
Against Bouvet Signature Brut, Champliau is Pinot Noir-led with longer lees aging; for a fuller, Pinot-driven sparkler, choose Champliau.
The producer recommends it as an aperitif. Serve it chilled with gougères or oysters.
