Klipsun Vineyard, planted in 1984 on Washington's Red Mountain, sold its Cabernet for years to wineries such as Quilceda Creek, Col Solare and Betz. The 2016 is the first vintage under the vineyard's own Klipsun label.
Terlato Wines bought the vineyard in 2016 and launched the label in 2019, with 1,000 six-bottle cases of this wine. Consulting winemaker Doug Fletcher describes the style as one foot in Napa and one foot in Bordeaux. The 2016 is Cabernet Sauvignon with about 10% Merlot and Syrah, aged 20 months in new oak. It's 14.5% alcohol.
It's packaged as a collector's bottle: numbered, dipped in wax by hand and sold in a wooden box.
For a Washington Cab from one of the state's most famous vineyards, buy this. For a Napa Valley icon at a similar price, see Groth Reserve 2016.
Decant it for an hour and serve it with a ribeye or lamb.
