Krug Grande Cuvee 170th Edition Champagne 750ml

Joseph Krug founded his house in Reims in 1843, and Grande Cuvée is its flagship: a multi-vintage blend in which each release carries an edition number.

The 170th Edition, 170ème Édition on the label, blends 195 wines from 12 years, 1998 to 2014, built around the 2014 harvest. Reserve wines make up 45%, and the blend is 51% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay and 11% Meunier. It spends about seven years in the cellar before release. Julie Cavil is the cellar master.

Krug describes flowers in bloom, ripe and dried fruit, marzipan and gingerbread, then hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, brioche and honey.

Krug says to serve it at 9 to 12°C, since colder mutes it, in a wide white-wine glass, with aged Comté, Jabugo ham, oysters or grilled shrimp.
