Newton's Mount Veeder vineyard climbs steep, south-facing slopes in the Mayacamas Mountains, between 750 and 1,250 feet. This is its single-vineyard Cabernet from 2018.
The grapes come from blocks 203, 205 and 212, on sedimentary soils, with vines averaging 18 years old. The wine went through malolactic fermentation in French oak, aged 18 months in barrel, 65% new, and was bottled unfiltered. Newton was closed by Moët Hennessy in 2025 and the brand sold without its Mount Veeder vineyard, so this is a library wine.
The winery describes blackberry, blueberry, cocoa powder and espresso bean, then pine resin, leather and forest floor, with focused tannins and lively acidity.
It's firmer and more mountain-styled than Newton's Yountville 2018. Choose Mount Veeder if you like structure and can wait.
Wine Enthusiast suggests drinking from 2029. If you open it now, decant it for two hours and serve it with a rib roast.
