Sterling Vineyards sits on a hilltop near Calistoga, and visitors ride an aerial tram up to the winery, first opened in 1973. Peter Newton and Michael Stone founded Sterling in 1964; Treasury Wine Estates owns it now.

This is Sterling's Napa Valley Cabernet. The winemaker's notes for the 2020 say it blends several Napa vineyards: a Rutherford portion for cocoa notes, mountain vineyards for briary intensity and boysenberry, and northern valley-floor sites for texture and richer tannins.

The winery describes cocoa powder, juicy boysenberry and a briary edge, with layered tannins.
