Villa Antinori Bianco comes from Marchesi Antinori of Florence. Its first vintage, 1931, was based on Trebbiano, and a little Chardonnay joined the blend in the 1980s.
The 2024 blends Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Trebbiano Toscano and Riesling Renano; Antinori doesn't publish percentages. The Pinots were picked in late August, Trebbiano in mid-September and Riesling in early October, after a summer that ran warmer than average from mid-July. The grapes were destemmed and gently pressed, the must settled at 10°C for 48 hours, and fermentation took place in stainless steel at 17°C or below, with no oak. It's a Toscana IGT at 12% alcohol.
Antinori describes straw yellow with green tints, pineapple, citrus and orange blossom, then a fresh, mouth-filling, savory palate with a mineral finish. Falstaff notes vibrant acidity and a salty finish.
Against Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina 2024, Villa Antinori is a four-grape Tuscan blend rather than a single variety; for a layered, steel-made white from Tuscany, choose Villa Antinori.
Serve it chilled as an aperitif or with seafood pasta, grilled fish or roast chicken.
